Studying routines can be quite stressful, especially when one is trying to get a good score on the exam. However, what can increase this stress is the excessive level of myths that exist about exam preparation. The main purpose to make this post series is to bust those myths about preparation of subjects for CAIE O Level / A Level and IGCSE. The post will be accompanied by 2 other posts: Examination Solving and Attempting Tips, and Schedules for each subject

How To Prepare: General

  • O Level Pakistan Studies – The History and Culture of Pakistan (2059/01) and IGCSE Pakistan Studies – The History and Culture of Pakistan (0448/01) requires you to solve 1 Paper: The Memorization Paper (that is what I like to call it)
  • The following method is what I prefer for the preparation in most cases.

The Prerequisites

  • Both components of this subject have different syllabuses. Thus, we will be using separate posts for both of them.
  • Remember, you need the book for this subject. Never go directly to notes- NEVER. You will just kill your chances of success. ONLY USE Hunain Zia’s free notes when REVISING and attempting past papers.
  • I prefer focusing more on Section 1 and 2 of the syllabus compared to Section 3. Why?
    • Section 1 is the smallest.
    • Section 2 is a like a story
    • Section 3’s last chapter itself is 3/4 size of Section 1.
      • Work smart!

Time Line of Preparation

  • Our focus is very precise for this subject.
  • Try following it exactly.

The Method

  1. First, read the entire section 1 3-4 times.
    1. Do not focus on cramming anything at this point. Our focus is not to cram, but to naturally memorize the information.
  2. Once you have read all the chapters of section 1
    1. Read 1 chapter of Section 2
    2. At the same time
      1. Re-read the first chapter of Section 1
      2. Do
        1. 5-7 4 marks questions
        2. 5 7 marks questions
        3. 3 14 marks questions from the past papers (latest ones first) for the chapter.
    3. Then progress with the same strategy
      1. Read the second chapter of Section 2
        1. Revise the second Chapter of Section 1
        2. Do
          1. 5-7 4 marks questions
          2. 5 7 marks questions
          3. 3 14 marks questions from the past papers (latest ones first) for the chapter.
  3. Once you are done with all Section 2 chapter readings and section 1 chapters topical past papers, read the section 2 about 3-4 times
  4. Then, start doing the same with Section 3 and Section 2
    1. Read 1 chapter of Section 2
    2. At the same time
      1. Re-read the first chapter of Section 1
      2. Do
        1. 5-7 4 marks questions
        2. 5 7 marks questions
        3. 3 14 marks questions from the past papers (latest ones first) for the chapter.
    3. Then progress with the same strategy
      1. Read the second chapter of Section 2
        1. Revise the second Chapter of Section 1
        2. Do
          1. 5-7 4 marks questions
          2. 5 7 marks questions
          3. 3 14 marks questions from the past papers (latest ones first) for the chapter.
  5. Once you reach the second last chapter of Section 3, you will already have completed the topical past papers of Section 2
  6. Now, do not attempt the last chapter of Section 3 Yet.
    1. Instead, start revising chapter of Section 3
      1. Do
        1. 5-7 4 marks questions
        2. 5 7 marks questions
        3. 3 14 marks questions from the past papers (latest ones first) for the chapter.
  7. Once you are done with all this preparation, devote the remaining time to reading the chapters of Section 1 and 2, and preparing the international relations chapter of Section 3.

The Crucial Elements

  1. Always attempt the questions in the same time limit as you are attempting them in your FINAL Exam.
  2. Use the techniques mentioned in HOW TO ATTEMPT post for the same subject / component when attempting topical past papers.
  3. Check your past papers with the marking schemes, and enlist any specific questions OR points that you felt were difficult or were skipping your mind. This way, you revision will be a lot easier.
